Okazaki on target as Mainz get better of Stuttgart

Shinji Okazaki was again on the scoresheet for FSV Mainz as they edged VfB Stuttgart 2-1 on Saturday.

The Japanese striker netted his ninth goal of the Bundesliga campaign when he pounced on a defensive error to equalise for die Nullfunfer in the 39th minute after Mohammed Abdellaoue's earlier opener at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Okazaki's leveller allowed Mainz to get back into the contest before an 87th-minute winner from Benedikt Saller, supplied by South Korea's Park Joo-ho, gave the visitors maximum points on the road.

Winter signing Koo Ja-Cheol, who arrived from Wolfsburg earlier this month, made his Mainz debut when he replaced Yunus Malli on the hour-mark while US-born Japanese defender Gotoku Sakai played a full 90 minutes for the home side.
