Okazaki leaves Stuttgart for Mainz

Shinji Okazaki has departed VfB Stuttgart to join FSV Mainz.

The 27-year old Japanese striker has signed a three-year deal with Die Nullfunfer for an undisclosed fee after spending the past two-and-a-half-years at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Mainz boss Thomas Tuchel was thrilled to capture the former Shimizu S-Pulse star who scored a total of 13 goals for Stuttgart.

"We are very pleased that Shinji Okazaki has decided to switch to us," Tuchel told the club's official website.

"He is a player with skills that are very important to play our type of football. He is a complete team player, flexible, is always a goal threat and is strong going forward."
