San Jose Earthquakes have allowed Ronnie O'Brien to leave the club. The Quakes couldn't reach a contract agreement with the former Major League Soccer all-star and let him go this week just ahead of the opening of training camp Monday.
O'Brien, who lives in San Jose, wanted to stay.
"The number they came back with was really low," he told the Mercury News of negotiations. "It wouldn't have taken much more to keep me here."
O'Brien's agent, Dave Baldwin, said of the former Middlesbrough and Juventus midfielder: "It's probably going to be a little late for MLS teams as most of them have now filled their rosters. But Ronnie is a very talented footballer and I'm sure we'll find something suitable for him."
