Sunderland captain John O'Shea hopes that manager Sam Allardyce will bring in in some new additions in the winter transfer window to help the Black Cats in their relegation battle.
The Black Cats are currently placed 19th on the league table, four points from safety, and O'Shea admits some quality reinforcements will go a long way to keeping the Wearside club out of trouble this term.
O'Shea said: "Hopefully the manager will get the help to improve the squad as well.
"That's key, we need to increase competition and the quality and keep everyone on their toes.
"If we can get that as well as some wins in January it'll be a good month."
