Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill says he will discuss further the future of David Meyler with the player this summer.
The 22-year old has struggled to make an impact at the Stadium of Light mainly because of two knee injuries and O'Neill suggests he will learn his fate at the end of the season when the pair hold talks.
"It's something we would look at in the summertime. He's a genuinely good lad. He hasn't moaned about it to me, but he did say he would like to play.
"His first choice would be playing for Sunderland, but at some stage or another he has to play.""It's been really tough for him. He's been involved in the squad but he hasn't started and of course it's frustrating,'' O'Neill told the Sunderland Echo.
