Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce was delighted with Charles N'Zogbia's performance against Sampdoria this weekend.

Allardyce told the Evening Chronicle: "Charles N'Zogbia was probably man-of-the-match for me.

"I know Alan Smith scored the goal - which was great for him on his debut - but Charles was probably the most consistent player.

"It's nice to see a young man of his capability coming in and playing a couple of positions for me - left-back and wide left.

"His adaptability is superb. I look forward to him progressing and getting better and better."
