NZ swept up as 15,000 attend Beckham training session

The England midfielder led the kids to the stadium like the "Pied Piper", claimed one witness, as rugby stronghold Wellington experienced a football invasion which has left everyone involved in the Galaxy promotion gobsmacked.

Beckham, fresh from Tuesday night's friendly against Sydney, where it's reported his appearance was worth a staggering $20 million to that city's economy, put himself through a solid training session with his Galaxy teammates under the watchful eye of coach Ruud Gullit.

The Galaxy will face Wellington Phoenix on Saturday - and tonight's A-League fixture against Adelaide United is expected to break all records for a domestic club game involving a NZ team.

Beckham and LA Galaxy's visit Sydney has been celebrated as a complete success by Australian football powerbrokers, however NZ football and government officials believe his Wellington tour will make an even bigger impact for the sport in their country after the reaction to his first 24 hours in the city.
