NZ ace Smeltz doing ok after heavy collision in Perth Glory Grand Final loss

Perth Glory's Shane Smeltz is a bit sore and sorry following Sunday's controversial 2-1 A-League Grand Final defeat at the hands of the Brisbane Roar.

The New Zealand striker had a heavy collision with Roar captain Matt Smith which required 50 stitches to his lip and nose but is doing ok after the incident.

"I'm a bit sore but the pain killers are keeping me good at the moment," Smeltz said.

"In terms of pain, it was the hardest game I have had to get through.

"With the blood continually dripping and the bandages, it was tough to breathe when I was running.

"I'd like to thank the plastic surgeon who treated me and everyone for their messages of support."

The Glory took the lead in the 51st minute when Billy Mehmet scored but conceded with six minutes remaining when Besart Berisha headed home before the Albanian was awarded a penalty, which he converted deep into injury time, for being tripped in the box with replays showing there was no contact.
