New York Red Bull has traded young gun Juan Agudelo to Chivas USA for Heath Pearce.

The promising 19-year old striker has headed to Los Angeles with 27-year old defender Pearce heading to Red Bull Arena for allocation money, salary cap relief and a slice of any transfer fee that Chivas receive if they on-sell Agudelo.

New York general manager Erik Soler has revealed that Agudelo was keen to leave the club so he could further develop his game elsewhere.

"We had conversations with Juan for a long period of time about the future and his development," Soler told reporters.

"He thought that his chances to develop as a player would be better if he played somewhere else.

"We invested a lot of time and money in him and we wanted him to stay but he wanted to try something else and we support that."
