NYRB star Cahill: Australia boss Osieck has successfully done his job

Tim Cahill has defended under-fire Australia national team boss Holger Osieck.

The German has been criticised since the Socceroos lost 6-0 to Brazil last month but New York Red Bulls ace Cahill believes he is being treated unfairly after successfully guiding the side into the 2014 World Cup.

"He has got us to the World Cup and that was his job," Cahill said ahead of Friday's (Saturday morning AEDT) friendly with France in Paris.

"But he has been under scrutiny and questions have been asked about him regardless throughout the qualifying campaign.

"The result against Brazil was disappointing but as players you have to take responsibility.

"I feel the attention focused on him is unjustified. You qualify for the World Cup one week and the next people are questioning you as a person and a manager.

"But to him it's water off a duck's back. All he can do is prepare a team mentally, physically and tactically, and we have every instrument at our disposal in our approach to matches. We have plans for how we defend, to attack, and the way we train.

"Holger doesn't have to prove anything to anybody. He just needs to concentrate on the bigger picture - and that's Brazil."
