NYRB sever ties with ex-Dallas, Chivas defender Pearce

New York Red Bulls have declined the option on defender Heath Pearce it has been announced.

The 29-year old 35-times capped USA international is out of contract at Red Bull Arena and has been told his deal will not be renewed.

Pearce, who has also played with Nordsjaelland, Hansa Rostock, FC Dallas and Chivas USA, is now eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Draft in December.

"We want to thank Heath for his time at the club since joining in 2012," sporting director Andy Roxburgh said in a statement.

"Following our discussions with Heath after the conclusion of the 2013 season, it was decided to not offer him a new contract in order to allow both parties to go in our separate ways. We wish Heath the best of luck in the next stage of his career." Pearce made a total of 34 appearances for the Red Bulls, including 14 in 2013 as the New York outfit took out the MLS Supporters'' Shield.
