New York Red Bulls defender Rafael Marquez has played down the Real Madrid-Barcelona rivalry ahead of the clash with LA Galaxy and David Beckham on Friday night.

Former Barcelona star Marquez says the fact that Beckham is an old Real Madrid player does not come into calculations as the pair are now at different clubs and have moved on from their time in Spain.

"That's in the past," Márquez said. "Now we play for different teams."

The Red Bulls take on the Galaxy at Los Angeles' Home Depot Center this Friday.
