NYRB's Backe excited about arrival of ex-Liverpool, Hibernian midfielder Palsson

New York Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe is clearly excited about the signing of Icelandic midfielder Victor Palsson.

The 20-year old former Liverpool man has joined the MLS outfit after spending some time in Scotland with Hibernian and Backe feels he has what it takes to make an immediate impact at the Red Bull Arena.

"(He's) a hard-working guy, Icelandic guy with a good knowledge of the game being outside Iceland since he was 15 with Liverpool and Hibernian,'' said Backe.

"(He) knows the game very well, almost close to Teemu (Tainio) the way he plays; a little bit taller and very good in the air.''

Red Bulls general manager Erik Soler was also expecting big things from the Iceland U21 international.

"Victor is a promising young player who has gained some experience playing in Europe," said Soler.

"He will certainly challenge for a spot in our squad and can provide us an option in midfield."
