New York Red Bulls star Juan Pablo Angel was told he would not be at the club next year and that if he found another outfit interested, that he could leave in July.
ESPN's Allen Hopkins confirmed that the Colombian ace knew a few months ago that he would not be returning to Red Bull Arena in 2011 and came close to joining the LA Galaxy or Seattle Sounders at one point.
"Going back to July and specifically in Houston at the MLS All-Star Game, Juan was told at that point that he would not be renewed with New York, and that he could leave immediately if he could find another club," Hopkins said on Extra Time Radio.
However, nothing eventuated and the former Aston Villa man remained at the Red Bulls where he is on the verge of leading the club into the play-offs.
But Angel confirmed he would not be a New York player next season.
"I know that I won't be a part of this team next year. For a fact," he said.
