New York Red Bull head coach Mike Petke has hinted at the prospect of starting both Juninho and Tim Cahill in midfield this weekend.
With the defensive-minded Dax McCarty out injured, Petke may pair Brazilian playmaker Juninho in central midfield alongside the attacking Cahill for the trip to Columbus Crew on Saturday.
"All of them have the quality to be in there. Juninho's come back, Dax is still out; Juninho on the ball is obviously something that we like," said coach Petke.
"We haven't made a decision on who is starting, because I also like Eric Alexander with the road mentality.
"But whoever's in there, there's got to be an understanding that they cannot just go. Whether both are offensive-minded, it doesn't matter. There has to be one guy in front of the back four and one going at times. It doesn't matter who it is, that's the way we're playing, and there has to be an understanding."
