MLS club New York Red Bulls are accountable for around $3million in property taxes, an appeals court has ruled.
The Red Bulls owed the Town of Harrison $2.8m for playing in the Red Bull Arena in 2010 and 2011 and although the club did pay their debts, filed for reimbursement because they believe they are exempt from paying taxes under state law.
However, a New Jersey appeals court ruled on Monday that the Red Bulls are 'liable for nearly $3 million in property taxes to the town of Harrison' because they don't qualify for the exemptions.
A statement from the New York club suggested that they would now seek further legal aid regarding the issue.
"We respect the court's decision and will discuss our legal options internally," read the statement.
"As always, we look forward to continue being a partner for the Town of Harrison and its development for the many years to come."
