NYRB distance themselves from Anelka, Klose rumours

New York Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe admits talk of Chelsea's Nicolas Anelka or Bayern Munich's Miroslav Klose coming to the club is simply speculation. Frenchman Anelka has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge ever since Fernando Torres joined the Blues from Liverpool whilst Klose is finding it hard to get game time at the Allianz Arena and has also been tipped to leave.

But Backe insisted that the Red Bulls were not going to bring in a striker of this caliber to become their third Designated Player.

"It's only rumors I can assure you. We had some names in December but it didn't work out," Backe said. "If it's going to be a DP position, it's not an attacking position; it's probably in that central midfield position.

"If we're going to buy a player and a good one it would be in the central midfield. The most important thing is to have players in the midfield who can feed the strikers for the final chances."
