NYRB could pocket up to $300k for CCL qualification

The NY Post is reporting that New York Red Bulls could be awarded up to $300,000 in salary cap allocation after qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League.

The Red Bulls will compete in their region's premier club competition by virtue of their 2013 MLS Supporters' Shield triumph and are likely to bring in $100,000 simply for qualifying.

It is also believed that a further $200,000 will come their way if they reach the quarter-finals stages of the tournament currently held by Mexican club Monterrey.

Despite the likelihood of a funding injection, sporting director Andy Roxburgh was making no plans to bring in a new Designated Player to add to Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill.

"My mind is totally open. We're looking at our own squad," said Roxburgh.

"If there's somebody we think will obviously make this a better team, we'd got to the owner and discuss that. To me it's not 'DP or not DP.' We're looking to see are there players there that could add a dimension to the team to make us even more effective."
