NYRB boss Petke bemused after Toronto draw
New York Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke admits he was stunned at his sides woeful performance on the weekend.
The Red Bulls were held to a goalless draw by Toronto FC at BMO Field and Petke says it was a negative showing against a side who had won once in their previous 17 outings.
"Not impressive, not impressive at all," Petke said after the match.
"Toronto had the right mentality and we didn't. If you play this game on paper, we win this game, but this game is not played on paper.
"This game is played with heart, effort, logic, and Toronto won in all those categories today, so in a way I feel fortunate we got a point."
He added: "Coming off a 4-0 thrashing of Montreal [Impact], where we were flying on all cylinders and to come here and play like this, I'm honestly confused. I don't know. I'll throw a cliché out there: It's back to the drawing board."
The Red Bulls have mixed their form in their past three outings with a 2-0 loss to Colorado Rapids, a 4-0 win over Montreal and the 0-0 draw with Toronto and currently sit second on the Eastern Conference table, four points behind Sporting Kansas City.
