NY Cosmos confirm signing of Villarreal veteran Senna

New York Cosmos have completed the signing of departing Villarreal captain Marcos Senna.

The 36-year old Brazil-born Spanish midfielder has left El Madrigal after more than a decade to continue his career in America with the reformed Cosmos who kick off their new campaign in early August.

"This is a very special moment for me in joining the Cosmos because I face a new challenge, but at the same time it has been a difficult decision to leave Villarreal after 11 seasons," Senna said.

"I want to thank Giovanni Savarese, Remy Cherin and my agents Ely Coimbra and Hector Peris for helping me make this move possible."

Senna kicked off his career with Brazil's Rio Branco back in 1997 before moving on to America-SP and then to Corinthians in 1999. Juventude and Sao Caetano came next before his 2002 shift to Villarreal.

During his time with El Submarino Amarillo, Senna won the 2003 and 2004 Intertoto Cups and was also part of the Spain squad which took out the 2008 European Championships.
