Nugent wants Portsmouth future

David Nugent insists his future is with Portsmouth.

The former Preston striker looked surplus to requirements at Pompey just two months after his £6million arrival at Fratton Park when manager Harry Redknapp admitted he could sell him to raise money for strengthening the team in the August transfer window.

A proposed switch to Derby did not materialise, however, and now Nugent insists: "There was no way I wanted to leave. That's why all the speculation was so frustrating.

"People were saying I wanted to leave when I didn't. I've only been here two months and I signed a four-year contract. Now I want to stay as long as possible and fire Portsmouth into Europe."
