Nth Qld's Brockie eyeing more goals

North Queensland Fury's Jeremy Brockie knows he will need to score more goals if he is a realistic chance of making New Zealand's World Cup squad.

The 22-year old already has 15 international appearances for the All Whites but was not in either squad for the final World Cup play-offs against Bahrain in November and knows now that he must improve his performances markedly if national team coach Ricki Herbert is to include him in his 23-man squad for South Africa next year.

''I don't think it's locked in at all,'' Brockie said.

''I missed out on the qualifying games and there's five spots up for grabs.

''I know that I have to perform with the Fury for the rest of the season to get in that 23-man squad to South Africa.

''There's a lot of players vying for those five spots and if I keep performing well for the Fury then hopefully my place will be among those 23.''

Brockie says he is eyeing more goals in a bid to help his chances but says he is solely focused on assisting the Fury finish as high on the A-League table as possible.

"I've struggled to bang them into the net the last couple of weeks but I'm getting the chances," he added.

''Hopefully once that first one goes in then they'll start flowing on from there.

''It's good to be getting opportunities in front of goal and hopefully one will fall for me in the back of the net soon.

''I just want to concentrate on the next (six) games with the Fury.

''Hopefully I can put in good performances and by the time the (end of) season comes hopefully we're in the finals and I get a few more games there.

''What has to happen after there, I'll talk to the New Zealand management and if they need me to go somewhere then I'll have to do that.''
