North Queensland Fury goalkeeper Paul Henderson is intent on nailing down the number one spot at the club.

The former Leicester City shot-stopper has played all but one match in the clubs first season but knows he was close to being placed as second choice after a string of sub-par performances.

He let in three goals in the opening round against Sydney FC, one being a penalty, and after giving away a spot-kick on Saturday night, he felt that horrible feeling returning.

But the save of John Aloisi's penalty shot and a clean sheet against the Sky Blues played a major part in the Fury's first ever win and Henderson is now looking to keep the gloves on for some time.

''It was (deja vu) to be fair, I thought 'oh no, here we go again','' said Henderson in regards to the penalty he gave away.

''But thank God this time I saved it which was good.

''I spoke to a few of the boys that played with Sydney even before the first game and they said he (Aloisi) favoured that side.

''I kept that in the back of my head and just went that way again.

''It was big, it was one of those things, you didn't want to go behind at any stage.

''To save the penalty was massive for the team and I think we drew a lot of confidence from it.

''You want to play all the time and unfortunately you need a kick up the pants sometimes to get you going,'' he added.

''But these things happen, it was good to get a clean sheet which always helps.

''It's always disappointing when you're not playing, unfortunately for Justin he got injured during the week.

''It's always tough for goalkeepers and it goes with our territory.''
