Stewart Petrie has been appointed as assistant coach of North Queensland Fury. Petrie joins former teammate Ian Ferguson (Fury head coach) to become the duo who will guide the club in its infancy.
The 38-year old has experience in the A-League after playing with Central Coast Mariners in the 2005/06 season where he was joint winner of the Golden Boot.
"Stewart and I played together at Dunfermline for about two and half years and then again at the Northern Spirit in the old NSL," Ferguson said.
"He was at the Central Coast Mariners as a player but he also had the ability to take some of the younger players aside and show them what needed to be done in the game.
"He had a great impact on the park and he's got a good coaching style," Ferguson added.
"He'll be my eyes and ears in the dressing shed and the guy players can go to when they need to sort something out or to get something through to me.
"Stewart will play a big part in how we prepare the boys and he shares a very similar philosophy in how I think we should play."
Petrie has joined the new franchise on a three-year deal.
