National Rugby League chief executive David Gallop says the notion of creating 'super clubs' in Australia is one that his code is open to looking at.
New Newcastle Jets owner Nathan Tinkler has put forward the idea of combining the resources of the A-League club with that of NRL's Newcastle Knights to create a super club and Gallop says the idea has merit.
"We can certainly see the merit of combining resources across two clubs," Gallop said.
"We have worked first hand with clubs like the Seattle Seahawks (NFL) and Seattle Sounders (Major League Soccer).
"It is something that may well happen in our game in the near future."
