Crystal Palace were among the clubs linked with the 28-year-old who began his Scottish career with Raith and has never played at the highest level in his homeland.
He said: "I think in football, even if I leave Rangers and sign for another club, you're never going to guarantee you play.
"The manager who signed me here was Alex McLeish, and then I was with further different managers and Walter has come and given me the confidence.
"Now I can say he's given me a two-year deal. Now what I need to do is compensate him and give everything I've got and fight for him."
Novo insisted: "I want to stay here and try to finish my career here. I love this club and I'll try to do my best for it.
"I'm quite happy to get my two years here. It's something I always wanted. I'm pleased the club has given me the chance as well."
