Championship side Nottingham Forest are closing in on a £2m-deal for Newcastle striker Daryl Murphy, according to the Daily Mail.

The 34-year-old was signed to be a backup striker in Rafa Benitez's side last season, but he did manage to contribute with some important goals in the second half of the season.

Overall, he scored five goals in 15 league appearances for the Magpies.

Meanwhile, Forest are looking to replace Britt Assombalonga and are hopeful of concluding a deal for the Republic of Ireland international.
