Nottingham Forest are set to trump Crystal Palace for Anthony Gardner.

The Mirror says Forest boss Steve McClaren is ready to grab centre-half Gardner on a free transfer.

Gardner has been training on his own in London since leaving Hull at the end of the last campaign.

The long-time Tottenham defender turned down an approach from Crystal Palace after a loan spell there last season.
