Championship club Nottingham Forest are close to signing Stephen McLaughlin from Derry City.
The 22-year old winger has been on trial with Forest recently and it is believed he will pen a deal worth £200,000 on Tuesday.
"I go over on Tuesday, but nothing has been agreed yet," McLaughlin told the Londonderry Sentinel.
"It has been a long couple of weeks, not knowing what was going to happen, but hopefully now things are moving and everything will be sorted out.
"It would be a nice Christmas present, but I'm going over for talks on Tuesday and see what happens from there."
He added: "I enjoyed my time (training) with Forest, yes it's a massive step up from League of Ireland, because there is better players, better facilities and better training.
"Once I got over my nerves at the start of the week I was OK and I got on alright.
"Their training wasn't a major shock to me, yes it was quicker but once I got up to speed I was fine.
"I think I was nervous because you just don't know what to expect, but when I was leaving I felt grand and that I did OK."
