Nottingham Forest are seeking a permanent deal for on-loan Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner.
The 23-year-old is contracted to Villa until the summer of 2018 having signed a new year three deal last summer.
Forest coach Paul Williams, who is in charge of first team affairs until the end of the season following Dougie Freedman's departure, will recommend that the City Ground board make a permanent move for Gardner.
Speaking to the Nottingham Post, Williams said: "Gary does have an affinity with the Forest fans.
"But his parent club are also going to be in the same division as us next season, so it is hard to say where that might leave us.
"If you want to get to where you want to be in this division, you need to be talking to players like Gary about their futures, to try to get something tied up."
