Nottingham Forest are moving for two Manchester City youngsters.
Forest boss Steve McClaren hopes to ease his transfer frustration by borrowing Sweden Under-21 striker John Guidetti, 19, who impressed last season on loan at Burnley, and former Barcelona winger Gai Assulin, 20.
Forest have only signed Boro old boys Jonathan Greening and George Boateng and ex-Blackpool winger Andy Reid this summer, and new boss McClaren is desperate for more recruits.
"We're competitive, but not where I want to be," he said. "I'm pleased with the guys we've brought in, but we need more.
"It's probably the most frustrating pre-season I've had off the field for years. There is still a lot of work to do."
