Aston Villa could still sign Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley this week, it has been revealed. The Daily Mail says Villa are still waiting to discover if they have succeeded in a last-ditch attempt to take Cleverley on loan from Manchester United.

After seeing a move to Everton collapse, Cleverley was in danger of being left in limbo before Villa boss Paul Lambert revived the deal just before Monday's 11pm deadline.

Villa were granted an extension by the Premier League until 1am to complete a loan move but the paperwork was not submitted until 1.15am.

They are now waiting to find out if it will be ratified so the 25-year-old can move to Villa Park.
