New York Red Bulls did not produce their most fluid showing against FC Dallas on Wednesday night but they did enough to get through to the MLS Conference semi-finals.
Star striker Thierry Henry, who scored in the 2-0 at Pizza Hut Park, knew it would be a tough encounter against last season's runners-up and although he admitted it was not a great performance, he said the Red Bulls players did what was required of them to produce the desired result, especially after Jan Gunnar Solli saw red with ten minutes left.
"We had to keep it tight the first 20 minutes, I'd say even up to 30 minutes it was a difficult game. After that we kept the ball well, were trying to pass it through the lines and be more dangerous,'' said Henry. "You're not going to come play against Dallas and go put pressure on right from the beginning It wasn't our best passing performance, but sometimes you have to dig in and win games.
"Before the game I said If we want to go through we def have to play tight and have a great team performance, and that's what happened.
"Even when we went down to ten men we were under more pressure but didn't look like we were going to concede a goal, and that's always important when you arrive at these type of situations, especially the playoffs."
