Nosworthy hails Sunderland striker Jones

Nyron Nosworthy has hailed the impact made by Sunderland teammate Kenwyne Jones in his rookie Premiership season.

Jones scored his fourth goal in seven games to salvage a point in a 1-1 draw with Fulham at the weekend and the Trinidad and Tobago international is rapidly emerging as a new Wearside hero.

"Like myself, he is very relaxed, but he is from the Caribbean so he is even more relaxed," explained Nosworthy, who was also one of Sunderland's better players on Saturday, to The Journal. "You would not know he is there, he is very calm, gets on with everybody and it doesn't get to him. He knows what he is capable of and he takes it all in his stride.

"But he would be a nightmare to mark because he jumps and hangs in the air for so long.

"He wins a lot of games for us by winning things in the air and that gives us the onus to push up in their half.

"He has become a key player. The manager and the players have not tried to put extra pressure on him, it has just happened.

"You can see how well he does in the air and causes problems, so it becomes almost irresistible to drift in there, put the ball in and see what happens. At the moment he is our main striker going forward."
