Norwich deny manager talks with Chelsea hero Hasselbaink

Norwich City have dismissed reports linking former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink with the vacant manager's job.

Bryan Gunn was sacked on Friday, fuelling speculation that the club already had a replacement lined-up.

"I've never spoken to Hasselbaink's agents, so there's nothing in that whatsoever," Canaries chief executive David McNally told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"But if he was 25 and we could sign him I'd be going round to collect him now."

He added: "We did think about the timing (of Gunn's dismissal), but when you play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday for months, when is a good time to change your manager?

"Ideally of course you don't, but it's the most crucial position at the football club and we needed to make sure enough of the season was left.

"We need to act with a real sense of urgency on this one."
