Norwich City have coughed up big to land Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong.

The London Evening Standard says Norwich were keen to strengthen their defence following the 5-0 defeat to Fulham on the opening day of the season.

It is believed the Carrow Road club will have to pay around £5.5m for the Cameroon international, who has two years left on his contract.

The 26-year-old's time at the north London club was effectively over before Andre Villas-Boas replaced Harry Redknapp as coach in the summer.
