Norwich boss Roeder delighted keeping Chelsea's Bertrand

Norwich City boss Glenn Roeder is delighted to be keeping Chelsea fullback Ryan Bertrand to the end of the season.

Roeder told canaries.co.uk: "I am delighted to have secured Ryan until the end of the season.

"I actually thought six weeks ago that we were not going to have him for the second half of the season, I was concerned that Chelsea would want to take him back or need to take him back for some Champions League ruling about having a certain number of academy players in the squad so I expected not to have him and I have been looking around the Premiership squads for a replacement, but that all changed last week thankfully.

"It was decided for Ryan's benefit that they could leave him here for the whole season and complete a full season playing Championship football, which is very good for us.

"I am really pleased because he is a highly talented young player, still a teenager and he has a big future ahead of him, certainly he is one of those loan players that we could not afford to buy if he was available, so we have to enjoy him while we've got him. That's one less headache for us to consider in January."
