Norwich boss Neil pushes Rudd to challenge Ruddy

Norwich City manager Alex Neil has urged Declan Rudd to go after John Ruddy's number one spot.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper starred for the Canaries in Tuesday night's 2-1 Capital One Cup win over Rotherham United at New York Stadium which could give him the impetus to challenge Ruddy for the gloves this season and beyond.

"I had a good chat with Declan at the start of the summer in terms of where he sees himself. He is really comfortable here at Norwich and as he showed he is pushing John for his place," said Neil.

"Like anyone else in the squad if they are not performing I have able guys to come in and take their place and Declan is no different to John in that respect.

"I was pleased with the lads who got their opportunity. That is important. We have a lot of good players who have not been involved at the moment. All they can do is show a good attitude, work hard and opportunity will come and then it's up to them to take it."
