Norwich boss Hughton defends Ruddy after conceding seven

Norwich City boss Chris Hughton has jumped to support John Ruddy after he conceded seven in defeat at Manchester City.

Hughton admitted Ruddy, who signed a four-year deal on Friday, was below par but claimed he's still good enough to push Hart for England.

Hughton said: "It was a tough day for him but John has been excellent for us. I am confident he will continue to be in that England frame.

"We have all had a tough day but I expect him to be in future England squads. I am quite sure if the manager is going to use other goalkeepers then John will be right in the frame.

"That can only be based on performances and, overall, they have been good for us. I don't need to put an arm round him."
