Northern Ireland boss O'Neill puts Finland win in perspective

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill has refused to get carried away after his side's 2-1 win over Finland and is concentrating on the next qualifier against Romania instead.

The Green and White Army remain a point behind Romania in Group F at the halfway stage of Euro2016 qualifying ahead of a crucial meeting with the group leaders in June. The top two teams in the group will automatically qualify for the European Championships in France next year.

Asked whether automatic qualification is now the target, O'Neill said: "It's a realistic possibility but we are not setting targets, our next target is Romania, simple as that.

"We know they are an excellent team and they top the group, so we will have to be at our very best to beat them. But we are capable of doing that and the players believe that.

"With every game they are starting to believe more and more and it's a game we can look forward to."

Northern Ireland were beaten 2-0 in Bucharest in November and a win against Romania will almost secure their qualification.

"We are back to winning having lost in Romania and we now have the game in June and a win would take us top of the group again," said O'Neill.

"The players recognise that, we have our preparation laid out ahead of us and we are looking forward to a good 7-10 days with the players and we hope for a similar performance and similar result."
