North Queensland's Fowler not listening to the critics

North Queensland Fury's marquee signing, Robbie Fowler, says he will not listen to the critics and just wants to perform the way he knows how.

The former Liverpool star comes to the A-League with great expectations but is unfazed by the pressure surrounding such a big move to a fledgling club.

"I want to come over here and do as well as I can," he said at the A-League's season launch yesterday.

"People are saying you should do this and you should do that, but I am not too worried about what people say or what they are thinking. As long as I go out and perform the way I know I can then I shouldn't have any problems."

Fowler also said that he was feeling great after overcoming some pre-season niggles and was ready to kick-off the season.

"I feel in as good a shape as I have done for a while. I have not had a great pre-season in terms of quantity of games but I have probably trained properly for the last two or three weeks so I am getting there," he added.

"It's not a problem for me to keep my own standards. I have got pride in myself and I want to do as well as I can. Regardless of what league you are in or what the level is, you have to play to the best of your abilities.

"The top players in the game, you always judge yourself. I know what I can do and I know what I can't do, so I will try and do the bits I can do. I set myself high standards and I want to keep them."
