North Queensland may announce Newcastle skipper as marquee player

Socceroos defender Jade North is expected to be announced as new A-League club North Queensland's marquee signing. The Newcastle Jets captain has reportedly been offered a lucrative deal which may see him complete his career in Australia after recently pursuing a European move. Although the marquee player deal has not been confirmed by the club, North Queensland chairman Don Matheson did reveal that an announcement would be made some time this week. Speaking to the Herald, Matheson said, "Jade's always been on our radar - whether he would fill the marquee player (berth) is not something we've decide on or whether he'd fit in as a normal squad player. "If I said it was him, it would take the guts out of the announcement, and if I said no, it would make us feel a little uncomfortable in regards to the marquee player that we are talking to. "We've sent the contract down for the (marquee player) to sign. We would anticipate that will be back in the next few days and obviously once that's done, that will be our first announcement."
