North Queensland Fury have secured the signature of Togo national team defender Eric Akoto.
The 29-year old Ghanaian-born Akoto was rumoured to be signing with the Fury last week but it wasn't made official until yesterday.
Akoto, who has played a large portion of his career in Austria, was delighted to be calling Townsville his new home.
"I'm very happy and honoured to now call myself a North Queensland Fury player," said Akoto.
"The A-League has a growing reputation around the world as a very competitive and highly skilful league.
"And it's this, combined with the great set-up here at the Fury, which attracted me to Australia.
"I've been able to watch a couple of training sessions since I arrived in Townsville and I'm impressed with the squad we have.
"As one of the senior players, I hope to be able to pass on my knowledge to those around me and help play my part in a successful season for the North Queensland Fury."
Akoto has represented Togo on 56 occasions and the most notable clubs he has played for include Austria Vienna, Rot-Weiss Erfurt, Grazer AK and Kapfenberg. He most recently played with OFI Crete in Greece's second division.
