North Queensland Fury's David Williams says he is delighted that a coach of top quality has arrived at the club.

The Townsville-based outfit are preparing for their second season in the A-League and after some off-field difficulties earlier this year, things are looking up at Dairy Farmers Stadium.

Czech tactician Franz Straka was installed as the new coach recently and Williams has welcomed the appointment, saying he brings a new feel to the club.

"There's a different intensity and it's good finally to have a coach of his calibre up in Townsville," Williams said.

"And off the field as well as on you can see the way we all get on which will tell on the field. Everyone kind of respects each other which is what you want. It's the set-up for success."

Williams added that European coaches had more of an insight into the game as opposed to homegrown tutors and was comfortable with the fact that Straka had the liberty to go about selecting players he wants for the squad.

"No disrespect to any of the Australian coaches but most people know European coaches are one step ahead. We're very lucky and privileged to have him," he added.

"He's seeing trialists himself and he has the freedom now that the bulk of players have been signed to sign the remainder of the squad.

"You never know, there could be a few visa players coming who want to play for him. It's all exciting and excellent once we get the full squad.

"But at the moment the team cohesion is excellent and it's probably the best ever that I've been involved in a professional sense in the five years I've been a professional footballer."
