North Korea overpowered by Nigeria in troublesome friendly

North Korea were brushed aside 3-1 by Nigeria in a World Cup warm-up match which saw 14 people treated for serious injuries which were caused by a stampede in the crowd.

Nigeria: 3 (Ayegbeni Yakubu 15', Victor Obinna (p) 62', Obafemi Martins 88') North Korea: 1 (Jong Tae-Se 64')

Venue: Makhulong Stadium - Tembisa, South Africa Crowd: 20,000 Yellow cards:NGA - Ayiila Yussuf 80' PRK - Jong Hyok Cha 47', 79 Red cards:PRK - Jong Hyok Cha 79'

The chaos in the crowd did not damped the enthusiasm of the Nigerian players who went a goal up when Everton striker Yakubu finished neatly after some good lead-up play before Victor Obinna converted from the penalty spot just after the hour mark.

North Korea got back on track thanks to leading man Jong Tae-Se who pulled a goal back a few minutes after Obinna's penalty but any hope for the Asians was snuffed out when Jong Hyok Cha was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 79th minute and then Wolfsburg's Obafemi Martins made it 3-1 with just minutes remaining to give Lars Lagerback his first win in charge of the Nigerians.
