Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) president Tim Leiweke has dismissed reports that the company could acquire Barclays Premier League club Tottenham, reports Sport Business. AEG, which has a controlling interest in numerous sports teams and venues in North America, owns Major League Soccer club the LA Galaxy in the United States, as well as the London-based 02, which is considered to be one of Europe's leading entertainment arenas and has hosted basketball, ice hockey and tennis events in recent years.
However, although Tottenham confirmed recently that it was on the look-out for investors to help fund a new stadium project adjacent to its current home at White Hart Lane after de-listing from the London Stock Exchange, Leiweke has insisted AEG is not interested in taking over the club.
"We currently enjoy a very good business and personal relationship with Tottenham and have been involved with a number of transactions over the years," he added. "However at no time have we had a desire to purchase that club. We will continue to have a great relationship with (chairman) Daniel (Levy) and Tottenham moving forward."
Spurs is majority-owned by ENIC, an investment vehicle controlled by businessman Joe Lewis.
"The stories that AEG is interested in or has been negotiating for the purchase of Tottenham are untrue," Leiweke said in a statement to the Associated Press.
