No Rangers contact for Fleetwood's Vardy

Fleetwood boss Micky Mellon has indicated to Rangers that star striker Jamie Vardy is not for sale.

The 25-year old has attracted a fair bit of attention recently after scoring 20 goals in 22 games in the Conference National and reports suggest that Rangers sent scout John Brown to watch him in action in Tuesday's win over Barrow.

But Mellon insists that Vardy is not for sale as the Trawlermen strive for promotion to League Two.

"I've heard John Brown was watching our game on Tuesday but there's been no contact. Blackpool put a bid in which we turned down because it wasn't enough," he said.

"Of course everyone has got their price but it would have to be something that was barnstorming for my chairman to accept it.

"We're trying to get promotion and we don't want to start bringing guys in then they see us selling our players off. We don't need to sell, we're a progressive club with a fantastic chairman so it would have to be something outrageous for us to listen."
