No pressure on Cole - Liverpool's Hodgson

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson says there is no pressure on midfielder Joe Cole. The former England international came to Anfield from Chelsea with high expectations but has so far not produced what he is capable of.

Ahead of tonight's Europa League clash with Steaua Bucaresti, Hodgson said that he expects Cole to start delivering sooner rather than later but insisted there was no hurry.

"Joe was bitterly disappointed not to take part on Sunday (against Tottenham)," said Hodgson.

"He would have liked to hit the ground running but it's not been possible.

"But he has a long time with us, he has a four-year contract and we know what he's capable of doing. The sooner he produces it, of course, the better it is for me, but there is no pressure on him.

"He isn't a naturally confident character. He suffers when things are not going his way. Everyone at the club has worked hard to make sure he doesn't take it too hard and take too much on himself.

"Everyone at the club, in particular the senior players, have done a great job. The coaching staff have tried to encourage him, saying, "Don't worry Joe, it will come right". Hopefully it will start here."

The Reds will progress a Group K winners if they can overcome the Romanian outfit at the Stadionul Ghencea tonight.
