No NYCFC deal for Man City's Lampard

A Premier League statement has revealed that Frank Lampard does not have an official contract with New York City FC.

It was believed that the veteran midfielder had signed a two-year deal with the MLS expansion franchise in July which would see him link up with them in January ahead of the 2015 season.

Former Chelsea star Lampard was then sent on loan to Manchester City for the first half of the 2014/15 Premier League season before having his stay extended until the end of the campaign.

Now it has come to light that he actually does not have a deal in place with NYCFC despite fronting their membership campaign. The statement also suggested that Lampard has been cleared to continue with Man City for the foreseeable future.

"Frank Lampard is registered with Manchester City FC until the end of the 2014-15 season," read the statement.

"The Premier League has sought and received assurances from Manchester City that there is no agreement in place between the club or City Football Group with New York City FC relating to the player."

Lampard instead signed a deal with the owner of Man City, NYCFC and A-League club Melbourne City FC - Sheikh Mansour's City Football Group - meaning he is not officially registered to New York City and is not bound to any contract with the MLS newcomers.
