CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev will not be making a move to Manchester United after manager Sir Alex Ferguson said he would not pursue him in January.
The Russian international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time now as United seek to strengthen their keeping stocks but Ferguson has made it clear he believes either Tomasz Kuszczak or Ben Foster can take the number one mantle from Edwin van der Sar when his time in the game is up.
I told you to watch out for him (Akinfeev) and he was fantastic as I expected," Ferguson told United Review .
"He is athletic, powerful and distributed well.
"Having said that, don't go rushing to conclusions. I know there have been rumours that we are interested in trying to sign him but that is not true.
"He is a great goalkeeper but I am very happy with our goalkeeping strength - from the senior ranks down to some bright lads coming through the ranks."
